At Kairos Community Trust, we are dedicated to helping homeless men and women with drug and alcohol problems. We do this through our abstinence-support hostel, our rehab programmes and our network of 29 supported Move-on houses, most of which are in south London.

Our core services provide: sober hostel accommodation, day programme rehab, residential rehab, supported housing and aftercare. Each service can be accessed separately or they can be combined to build individual pathways to recovery over a period of time. All our services are delivered by experienced teams of qualified therapists, support workers and administrators.

Addiction and homelessness are twin problems, and we believe that the journey to recovery from drugs and alcohol begins in a safe, secure environment.

Our vision is for all children to grow up in supportive communities safe from bullying and harm.?

Our mission is to provide practical support, training, and advice to challenge bullying and protect young lives.

Bullying behaviour can happen face to face or online, in school or the wider community.  It can be verbal, physical or emotional and often has a disproportionate impact on children who are perceived as 'different' by others.  This includes children from some minority or faith groups, disabled children and those with additional needs, young carers, young people who identify or are perceived to identify as LGBT+, children in care, children with illness and children living in poverty.  Children have a legal right to be protected from all forms of bullying, harassment and harm.

Kidscape gives hope and help to thousands of children and families each year and work with diverse communities throughout England and Wales to help keep children safe.

There are five main ways that we reduce the impact of bullying and harm:

• Building communities of support
• Reducing isolation and loneliness
• Promoting positive relationships
• Supporting resilience and wellbeing
• Helping children recognise and respond to bullying behaviour.

Key 4 Life is a British charity launched on 14 June 2013 to help reduce youth reoffending through the delivery of a rehabilitation programme to those in prison and those at risk of going to prison. Jonathan Joseph and Anthony Watson, the England and Bath Rugby players, have pledged their support to Key4Life, the young offender rehabilitation charity. The charity tries to assist young men in prison who may be having difficulty in not returning to a life of crime and becoming some growing static of reoffending youth in the UK. Since the charity started the 23 young adults that Key4Life have worked with, 8% have reoffended which is much better than the national average of 74%.

Khulisa is a charity working to change the system, change perceptions and change lives. Our programmes are proven to reduce crime by improving the wellbeing, resilience and aspiration of excluded children and prisoners across the UK. We do this by supporting, inspiring and empowering excluded people instead of villainising, neglecting or further punishing them, which is an approach that has failed for far too long.  Khulisa – ‘to nurture’ in Zulu – represents our South African heritage and our core belief that everyone, no matter their background, has the capacity to learn and grow in a safe, nurturing environment. We believe that schools, prisons, communities and government need a much more joined-up approach to help people escape the cycle of social exclusion and crime, which is why we are Britain’s only charity offering behaviour change programmes, training and research services at all key stages of the criminal justice system, giving us an unrivalled breadth of expertise of what works to reduce crime. With this, we are pushing for policy changes, so that we better support our schools, prisons and communities to reduce social exclusion and crime, and create a safer, more inclusive society.

Driven forward by our love of sport, we're here to fight discrimination. We're here to make sure football is a game for everyone – and that means putting equality and inclusion up front.

We've made huge progress on and off the pitch, leading the charge for positive change. We've done it by raising awareness, confronting issues and helping our sport be better.  We run education programmes for academy players, parents and fans. We campaign to make sure football is always welcoming – to everyone.

We support people from under-represented and minority communities to make a career in football and thrive.

Our biggest hope is that one day football no longer needs us. But right now we're here to put an end to every form of discrimination. We won't stop until it stops.

Further, to engage with young people through the medium of sports and music, whilst building mutual respect, unity, trust and friendships across all communities. KOTG was initially set up by local youth practitioner  just hours after the fire broke out at Grenfell Tower. the grass roots project was an intended emergency response to what was unprecedented, abject chaos and horror that had left the community in North Kensington traumatised and shellshocked.

The project quickly became a life line for community recovery after the fire when statutory services were overwhelmed and failed in their response. by the end of that first week kids on the green had become a nationally known response to the fire and drew volunteers from all over the country who brought help in all forms such as arts, circus, counselling, hot food, and therapies such as reiki, homeopathy, massage and acupuncture.

in almost 5 years of service in the north kensington community KOTG has rapidly and organically grown into an arts and wellbeing provision that is constantly shaped by our young service users feedback and need.

KOTG delivers music production and performance, delivers large and small scale events, teaches aerial circus, parkour and other performance arts and media. our facilities include a fully equipped music studio, digital radio station and podcast room, dj skills suite and we are currently raising funds for a visual suite and our own tv channel KOTGTV.

This is ladbroke grove, a home to artists, activists, pioneers and masters of the arts.  ladbroke grove is a melting pot of rich culture and bore carnival and portobello market.  it's a special place and unique place and KOTG wants to redefine any narrative that the young people who lived through grenfell might feel defined by. we are raising superstars but most of all we are investing in the wellbeing of the fabric of the community.

KOTG works with children and young people and is now an accredited arts awards centre.

Lambeth Together is a partnership of the NHS, local authority, the voluntary sector and others, focused on improving health and wellbeing in Lambeth and reducing inequalities for people in Lambeth through an integrated health and care system.

Our partnership was established in 2017 to improve ways of working across our organisations and with our communities to meet health and care needs across our borough and to plan and coordinate services focused on our local population.

In the summer of 2022 we will formally become a part of the South East London Integrated Care System (ICS), which has been formed in response to the Government's?Health and Social Care Bill. This is an important milestone in our evolution as a partnership which will see  the services we're responsible for planned and managed from a single budget at borough level. This means we will have more say and control over how money is spent on health and care locally and we will reach decisions as a partnership.

Working together, we will plan services and coordinate care across our borough to remove unhelpful divides between hospital and community-based services, physical and mental health, and health and social care. Making services more joined up, easier to access and more consistent will help people get the right care and support in the right setting, as early as possible and help our population achieve better health in the decades to come.

Established in 2013, and operating as an independent charity since 2016, LandWorks has an exemplary track record of reducing reoffending and empowering some of the most marginalised in our society to live more fulfilling and independent lives.

The project started with one member of staff, four prisoners, and a seed of an idea. Now with a strong infrastructure and staff team in place (including two former beneficiaries employed full-time here after their placement), we have transformed a derelict quarry into the 2-acre LandWorks training centre, almost entirely built by our trainees.

Working directly with our local prison, police and probation services, LandWorks provides life-changing placements (average 6 months but flexible) that are individually-tailored to tackle the root causes of offending. Replicating a working day structure, trainees develop practical skills in woodworking, vegetable growing, landscaping, construction, cooking and arts & crafts. Recognising the complex and entrenched needs of many offenders (Social Exclusion Unit, 2002), we have strong links with relevant agencies, and provide 1-2-1 practical support across employment, housing, benefits, addiction, health, mental health and family. External specialists deliver support sessions directly on our site.

Underpinning everything, though, is building trainees' self-worth, confidence and responsibility so that they can lead independent lives after their placement.

Leadership Through Sport & Business is a social mobility charity that prepares and supports bright young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into meaningful roles with major firms. We make sure those at risk of under-employment find careers equal to their ambition and ability, and can contribute from their first day on the job.

Through our employability programmes, we provide young people with personal and professional development to prepare them for the world of work before we look to place them in apprenticeships and full-time roles with leading employers across the UK. We work with employers in a range of sectors including accountancy & finance, digital technology, customer service and law.

Young people receive exclusive interview coaching, CV training, and workshops and events with leading companies and business professionals. Their transferable skills are developed through sports leadership coaching. We partner with top class education providers who provide expert tutoring and accredited qualifications before and during the apprenticeship placements. We place young people in high quality, career-focussed apprenticeship placements in major firms, supported with pastoral support from our Careers Development Managers and professional support from corporate mentors in the first 12 months.

Leadership Through Sport & Business is a social mobility charity that prepares and supports bright young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into meaningful roles with major firms. We make sure those at risk of under-employment find careers equal to their ambition and ability, and can contribute from their first day on the job.
We focus attention on communities where leadership potential is often wasted and we empower young people in the locations that we work to become future business leaders.

We address all forms of disadvantage: personal, in terms of adverse life events; socio-economic, in terms of class boundaries or lack of social capital; and practical, in terms of preparation young people need for the working world.

Employers increasingly recognise the importance of recruiting young talented individuals from diverse backgrounds. 90% of our employers find that recruiting through LTSB is an effective way of finding diverse, capable young people for entry-level positions, and 83% of our employers agree that our apprentices have been a positive influence on the workplace

Our candidates are capable of making a valuable contribution to an employer but they are held back by a lack of social capital and life skills.  Schools do not adequately prepare them for the world of work, which is why we put so much importance on the pre-work phase of our programme.

Young people in the areas where we work need help to overcome a variety of barriers, lack of opportunity and often generations of unemployment.  We provide them with a real chance and a helping hand to ignite their spark and to develop into well rounded members of their community and dedicated, hard working employees who can ultimately become leaders, movers and shakers.

Recently awarded £30,000 to deliver the ‘Improving Prospects’ program, with specific anti-weapon content, in schools in Harrow, Newham and Waltham Forest.

“Leap supports young people aged between 11 and 25 to make changes in their lives by gaining a greater understanding of themselves and their relationship with conflict. Many of the young people we work with have grown up in care, are not in mainstream education, are at risk of gang involvement and exploitation, or are caught up in the criminal justice system.

To have the greatest impact we also design training sessions and larger programmes for those who work with young people like local council workers, youth workers, prison officers and other voluntary sector workers, as they are best placed to offer support when conflict arises.

We don’t just stop there, we research into issues facing young people today to develop our understanding of conflict and its causes. This supports policy and practice changes that have a real impact.

Finally, great leaders and great teams are excellent at managing conflict constructively. We provide management training to all types of organisations which helps build strong teams and spark innovation. This is part of our social enterprise model and generates vital income that allows us to support more young people.”

LET'S TALK, set up by Peckham-based Community TV Trust, is a four year project spanning 2019-2022, with forums and film screenings in schools and youth clubs. In 2021 LET'S TALK has been focusing on the positive story of attempts by young members of the Black community to build better relations with the Police. Four teenagers lead the way. The three latest videos document this unexpected initiative.

See also our LET'S TALK Video Report 2020 for a full breakdown of how last year's Forums panned out.

In early 2019 and 2020, LET'S TALK ran Forums providing young people with professionals to talk to. Film Screenings in the Autumn of 2019 showed young people what their peers were saying and doing,  such as The Movement Factory and their production "One Road, Two Paths". A powerful musical about knife crime created by pupils at Harris Academy Peckham has now been performed at Bold Tendencies with the Multi-Story Orchestra.

LET'S TALK confronts social dysfunction by listening. From a Panel of professionals listening to young people comes positivity, as LET'S TALK Panel members pass on their findings to our elected representatives and policymakers and take back fresh thinking into their own work.

The next phase concentrates on Family, which some say is in crisis – affected by poverty, unemployment, not to mention youth violence and knife crime and the Covid-19 pandemic which has intensified isolation and mental health issues. So LET'S TALK!

Characterised by renewed hope, developed confidence and improved skills, the programmes that we offer give people the chance to grow, expand their horizons, and become agents of change in their own community. We focus on empowering and enhancing the lives of those people most isolated and vulnerable, building their confidence and helping them to learn new skills, so that they may fully live their lives and become a part of their community.

Regardless of the programme, we aim to operate with both a sensitivity and flexibility of response that many people find lacking in services offered by monolithic and sometimes distant statutory bodies. And the range of public-sector-funded programmes that we deliver have their impact and value increased further through the variety of additional volunteer-led services that are offered by both ourselves and the other members of the LifeLine family.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. We believe that no-one should be left isolated from their community.
We know of the increasing pressure that many families are facing, and of how traditional services have trouble even reaching certain groups. It is because of this that we are focused on maximizing the resources we have, to provide smarter and more effective services to the community.

One key way we achieve this is through building partnerships that can allow competence, co-ordination and creativity to flourish. These partnerships are essential in ensuring that people don't fall through the gaps. We have always sought to work with others, not only within in the voluntary sector, but with private enterprises and public sector bodies, in order to provide the best possible solution to the challenges we find.

And many of LifeLine's senior management are involved with the shaping of policy, sitting on boards and committees -- both local and national -- in order to help develop better ways of working. For example SW!TCH is not just another youth programme, it's a youth movement.

LifelLine Projects' SW!TCH draws on LifeLine's 20+ years' experience of working with young people through our award-winning VIP Mentoring scheme, growing since 2000.

Lighthouse Pedagogy Trust is creating children's homes where children can thrive, and where education is central to a holistic approach. We enable children in care to have the same opportunities as everyone else.

We are only able to accept referrals from local authorities, for young people on medium- to long-term placements.

Our entire approach is informed by social pedagogy – a relationship-based way of working with children. We use our learning to train people and influence decision-makers, so standards of care improve nationally. We invest in great staff who can build authentic relationships, in thoughtfully designed physical spaces.

Our home in Sutton is for young people, aged 12-17 on admission, who will benefit from a supportive and loving home environment. Our team understand that as a result of their lived experiences, some of our young people may express themselves in ways that require an extra layer of compassion, patience and understanding and we are set up to help navigate these complex emotional dynamics. We support all young people, whether their aim is to return to live with family, move on to foster care, prepare to live in their own flat or in supported accommodation.

Staff will support young people to attend appointments with other professionals, such as those in health or education, as part of their care and planning for their futures. So, for staff and young people, a typical day in the life of the home can involve spending as much time out and about in the community as in the home itself.

As part of our social pedagogic approach, we place a particular importance on fun and challenging shared activities that help nurture relationships and young people's participation and growth. Staff will be responsible for planning, arranging and taking part in a range of activities with young people, including going on holidays together.

Likewise is a charity and community centre in Camden with a long history of supporting people across the community. We work with people from all backgrounds and circumstances to support wellbeing and community and focus on the things that matter to each person. We're constantly learning from the people we work with to create spaces where people feel acceptance and belonging.

Over the past 30 years we have been at the forefront of innovative approaches in social care, mental health and community. We do things with people rather than to or for them, learning from each person in order to provide support and care that is relevant to their context and personality even as these change over time. Through the input and energy of our vibrant community we have a range of social activity, and provide a one-to-one service supporting people practically and emotionally.
Learning summarises our entire approach to the work. We believe everyone is engaged in a constant process of learning, and that such a process is fundamental to wellbeing – it is through learning about ourselves and others that we are able to make space for change.

“Lives Not Knives is an organisation dedicated to reducing knife and gang related crime in Croydon and elsewhere in London by:

• Using a Mentoring and Befriending approach that is dedicated to helping young people at risk.

• Supporting young people into employment, education and training.

• Focusing on training for young people in schools to ensure they are safe at home, at school or college and in their social and leisure time activities.

• Providing safe places for young people to meet, socialise and make friends in a relaxed environment.

Lives Not Knives focuses on work with young people aged 11 to 24 who have been referred to the organisation by teachers, parents and agencies or who have referred themselves to LNK. We are Croydon based but work across London with schools, colleges and other partner organisations to reduce the risk of gang related violence to young people. Our approach is preventative; we work with young people through our youth mentors who are trained in explaining the dangers of association with gangs, and working with small groups and individuals who are at risk. We are a youth led organisation, we listen and act on the views of our expert youth mentors who are familiar with the real world of gang culture and this forms the basis of our work in Croydon and elsewhere.”

Local Trust was established to deliver Big Local, a unique initiative that puts residents across the country in control of decisions about their own lives and neighbourhoods. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, it provides in excess of £1m of long-term funding over 10-15 years to 150 local communities that have historically missed out on lottery and other funding. Big Local is generating new and important learning and insight around the potential and limits of localism; the challenges of long term, place-based funding; and the limitless potential of local people to transform their own futures. We’ve just launched our first ever arts programme, Creative Civic Change, a joint initiative with the Big Lottery Fund and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, which will enable communities to transform themselves through arts and creativity. Our research project, The Future for Communities, shares findings from an 18-month research project asking ‘What needs to happen for communities to feel and be more powerful in the future?'

Our mission is to bring to young people, from disadvantaged backgrounds, a network that is usually only afforded to middle class young people. LVN helps to build the networks of vulnerable young people, by asking adults to donate one hour of their time to help inspire the hopes of the next generation – We call this  ‘The Power of an Hour’.

We have worked with educationalists and behaviour scientists to create a series of engagement programmes that maximise on the power of an hour. LVN help young people build networks by offering both a signposting app to ensure young people are aware of all the support available and, that enables them to build industry insight and knowhow.

The London Anti-Crime Education Scheme was created in 1994 with one sole purpose in mind, to inform and educate young minds of the consequences of choosing to commit crime. After experiencing 20 years in various penal establishments, Charles, the founder of LACES, has dedicated his adult life and work to communicating the bleak and harsh reality of a life of crime, with the hope of showing others the futility of wasted years spent in prison. The principal behind LACES is to tutor young people or those at the beginning of a life of crime, and to facilitate the successful reintegration of young offenders back into the community. As a reformed criminal for the past almost 20 years, Charles has, with the support of local people, been able to compile an anti-crime education programme, visiting schools, colleges, young offender institutes and other establishments. Research has shown that people are influenced throughout their lives, especially through their developmental and adolescent years, by a variety of factors. It is these factors that may lead an individual towards or away from crime. Charles’s programme shatters the illusion of glamour that can often be attached to crime. Through powerful imagery and raw, brutal honesty, Charles relays the demeaning and degrading reality of the criminal justice system — from arrest, progress through the courts to imprisonment. Through this early intervention with children and young people at risk of offending, it is hoped that those young people who attend the programme will ideally choose not to offend or reduce their offending in both type and frequency. LACES is unique in the fact that it focuses solely on the damage and effects which befall the perpetrators of crime.

Our experience has shown us that communities often characterised as poor and disadvantaged are rich with ideas and assets. Charities, social enterprises and groups that spring from the communities they’re trying to help often have a deep understanding of the gaps that need filling. They know what works, how to gain trust and build lasting relationships. We work across the Capital and specialise in supporting grassroots organisations who often don’t attract mass public support. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the groups we support and base our decisions on the merit of ideas and the talents behind them.

We've been working in the community for over 20 years, and have a unique window into how complex social problems are being tackled at local level. We're expert at directing funds into small, under the radar community groups.

We know that London’s civil society (and the communities they serve) have been affected in a myriad of ways by the covid-19 pandemic. Many organisations have had the dual negative impact of loss of income and increasing need – all whilst trying to navigate ‘the new normal’ when delivering their services. As a response to this crisis London’s funders have been working together to provide a coordinated funding to support groups responding to the needs of the capital's communities. The single application point for charities and community groups enables organisations to access funding from multiple funders in a fast and efficient way. It has been designed based on insights from groups working with Londoners, to ensure that it is flexible and responds to these needs as they emerge over the coming weeks and months.

It is a sad fact that some sections of society are more disadvantaged than others. This is why we target our work in what are statistically some of the most deprived areas of the country, working closely with those traditionally seen as hard-to-reach e.g. Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, refugees, asylum seekers, young people not in employment, education or training (NEET), offenders and others. Women and young people are often not given the priority they need, particularly within certain communities, so as an organisation we dedicate our resources to work with them.

For many of these individuals and communities, there are usually multiple problems affecting their access to opportunities such as lack of adequate educational attainment or poor health. Thus, we focus our project development and delivery across the following themes:

• Keep Communities Safe

• Improve Health & Wellbeing

• Provide Sporting Pathways

• Youth Services

• Develop People’s Skills

• International Development

We are London Youth, a charity on a mission to improve the lives of young people in London, challenging them to become the best they can. Young people need opportunities outside school to have fun with their friends, to learn new skills, to make a positive change in their communities and to shape the city they live in.

Last year, we worked with over 27,000 young people through our sports development, employability, youth action and involvement, arts and outdoor education programmes. Our work gives young people access to opportunities they might not otherwise have had.

Throughout our history, community youth organisations have provided a constant lifeline and a vital safe space outside the family and formal education, where young people can develop confidence, resilience and skills.

Our vision is that all young Londoners grow up healthy, able to express themselves, navigate a fulfilling career and make a positive contribution in their communities.

Our mission is to support and challenge young people to become the best they can be; developing their confidence, resilience and relationship skills.

We do this with, and through, our network of community youth organisations and at our two residential centres. We look to work with all young people, focusing particularly on those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to the kind of opportunities we offer.

Manhood Academy Global (M.A.G.) is a registered Charity with a global reach that is committed to our children’s life-changing transformation opportunities.  The world is transforming at an alarming rate.  According to the Office of National Statistics, men account for 8 out of 10 people cautioned by police, and nearly 9 out of 10 people found guilty for indictable offences are men.  Men are responsible for 97% of burglary and 92% of violence against the person.  It is clear that we are living in society where something awful is happening to men. There seems to be a gap between manhood and adolescence and our mission at Manhood Academy Global is to address that gap by helping our sons make that transition from childhood to manhood.

We could be here all day dissecting the issues within our community, issues that seem to be spearheaded by men.  Whatever your social standpoint, we cannot stick our heads in the sand pretending that there is no problem.  There is a massive issue and this issue is having a major effect on society.

At MAC-UK, our approach to services and practice is called the INTEGRATE approach.

MAC-UK works with several different projects all across London.  A visit to our website will show you where they have been located.

We are disseminating our approach by working with innovative statutory and third sector organisations who work with the most excluded young people. The projects below all draw on MAC-UK’s approach.

These projects aim to generate youth led solutions, co-produce projects and employ those with lived experience, draw on evidence-based psychological practice and attempt to tackle the root causes of mental ill-health by changing wider social, economic and health policy that creates exclusion and inequality.

INTEGRATE is a psychologically informed approach, delivers multi-level interventions that create change in social environments and co-produce services with those who have lived experience. To reach those who are most excluded, the MAC-UK approach is to go out to where they are and offer a flexible, responsive and holistic service which goes beyond just providing one to one therapy. This means working in communities (sometimes even in the streets), not in clinics! INTEGRATE, implements a set of service level and practice level principles to work alongside young people and communities.

MCWG are a community organisation working mostly with young people from black and ethnic minority (BME) backgrounds in the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, which has the second-highest percentage of Arabic-speaking residents in the UK. They were set up 22 years ago to help tackle a range of complex challenges including poverty, unemployment and a lack of educational support. Today some of the key issues affecting young people in our community include alienation and disengagement, so we aim to enhance young peoples’ self-esteem while teaching them responsibility, promoting integration and discouraging anti-social behaviour. From football training to cookery lessons, help with schoolwork, group trips, employment support, counselling and advice on mental health, we work actively to enable children and young adults to engage in and contribute to wider society. MCWG were recently awarded £26,625 to deliver outreach for 24 weeks followed by group workshops, one-to-one sessions and general youth centre provision for 40 young BAME men in Kensington and Chelsea.

Making the Leap is an innovative grassroots social justice charity that aims to make a big difference. From direct delivery, to advocacy and leadership, we refuse to stay in our lane and believe passionately that those we exist to serve have the right to be anything they want to be.

Our mission is to transform the futures of disadvantaged young people in the UK by providing training to raise their aspirations and develop their skills, behaviours and attitudes to choose and succeed in a career. We work directly with young people from deprived backgrounds in London, and we aim to increase our reach and impact through replicating our model with partners nationwide. We use what we learn in our delivery operations to raise awareness of the importance of social mobility among UK businesses and encourage them to take action to improve it.

As a charity, we work in partnership with the media and creative industry to give marginalised groups a stronger voice. We do this by promoting capacity building for charities and skills-based volunteering by the media and creative sector, empowering young people from diverse backgrounds to work in the industry, and facilitating constructive multi-stakeholder dialogue and collaboration. By bridging the gap between the media and creative industry and charities and under-represented communities we are contributing to a more responsible, representative and connected media sector and ultimately, a more socially cohesive Britain.

Mermaids has been supporting transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children, young people, and their families since 1995.
We offer a helpline.

Back at the start, we were a small group of concerned parents sitting around the kitchen table, coming together to share experiences, find answers and look for ways to keep our children safe and happy.

Today, Mermaids has evolved into one of the UK's leading LGBTQ+ charities, empowering thousands of people with its secure online communities, local community groups, helpline services, web resources, events and residential weekends.

We also seek to educate and inform wider society on gender identity by helping professionals accommodate and reassure gender-diverse young people.

Over the years, we've seen many changes in the language and understanding surrounding gender issues but one thing remains the same: transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children deserve the freedom and confidence to explore their gender identity wherever their journey takes them, free from fear, isolation and discrimination.

We are supporting young people aged 11-24 who have been using substances, reported missing from home or care, or exploited.

The Merton Young Person's Risk and Resilience service is an integrated service focused on mitigating risks and promoting resilience in young people. Our aim is to ensure young people don't move from worker to worker and receive holistic, seamless intervention for all their presenting needs. Their designated caseworker will assess their individual needs before developing a support plan. Young people are then supported according to their individual needs, such as through one-to-one work, drop-in sessions and awareness-raising training.

Our team includes specialists who are professionals at providing substance misuse services for young people (e.g., psychosocial support and access to pharmacological support, if required).

We also support young people who are currently involved in child sexual exploitation (CSE) or child criminal exploitation (CCE). We do screenings and assessments and provide suitable interventions which enable young people to reflect upon and recognise the exploitation. This service works in partnership with police and Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs), attending multi-agency child sexual exploitation (MACE) meetings, and promoting the sharing of intelligence across agencies.

Our missing from home or care services identify reasons for young people running away and provide support.

City Hall has partnered with Laureus Sport for Good and Nike to deliver an innovative initiative called ‘Model City’. Model City is a key project of the Mayor’s Sport Unites programme.

Model City empowers communities to create change in their local area through harnessing the power of sport. The initiative is underway as a place-based pilot in three London Boroughs: Haringey, Barking and Hounslow.

Each Model City comprises of community members who form a ‘coalition’. The coalition works together to identify local challenges and selects sports initiatives to fund in order to address them.

Real change starts local

Model City is a powerful example of the ‘bottom up’ approach that Sport Unites champions – actively encouraging local communities to influence the decisions that impact them. Funding is ultimately directed towards the issues that coalitions recognise as being important to their area and its residents.

Empowering locals to lead the decision-making process builds trust – creating a framework for partnerships to develop and communities to thrive. A combination of data, desk-based research and local consultation were used to determine the Model City locations in London.

Collaborative partnerships and shared objectives

Model City is a partnership between City Hall, Laureus Sport for Good and Nike. Laureus Sport for Good is a global charity that uses the power of sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage for young people. Model City has been used to create positive change through sport in New Orleans and Atlanta.

Our More Than Mentors programmes takes an Early Action approach aimed at preventing future mental health need for young people through an innovative model of peer mentoring.

By supporting students who present early, we aspire to address early markers for mental health needs such as depression, stress and anxieties, and reduce associated symptoms. Through peer mentoring we are looking to build young people's emotional resilience and self-confidence, improve their attendance and attainment at school and offer a preventative approach to mental health and emotional distress within the borough.

Mothers Against Muggings was co-founded  after too many of their sons' teenage friends had fallen victim to muggings in their local community.

This prompted us to connect with their police team and community leaders to develop a programme to tackle their local youth mugging issue and for it to be developed and rolled-out nationally.

The more we got involved in their local youth mugging situation, the more they saw their community was not alone. This is not just an issue for Richmond-upon-Thames or London - it is a national and global issue.

All teens need personal safety and awareness advice. We, as a society, have forgotten the importance of educating our children about personal physical safety, yet loaded them up with valuable tech – worth mugging for.

Barbara and Felicity have developed a programme that offers simple, effective advice that is easy to follow and has been proven to work.  The programme was created with the input from the Metropolitan Police, council leaders, youth workers, school headteachers, parents and victims of muggings.

At some point in each of our lives we are all reliant on being presented with an opportunity… Movement to Work operates in a world of opportunity and seeks to break the vicious ‘no job – no experience’ cycle that is preventing young people, not currently in education, employment or training, from stepping onto the career ladder. By supporting organisations in providing quality vocational employment and work placement opportunities, Movement to Work helps to drive both business performance and bring about lasting social change.

We work with employers to find the best solution for their organisation; either in-house with delivery through their own resource or through a training provider to support them in delivering their programme(s).

Through our approved network of training providers and youth outreach organisations, we can link unemployed young people with employers. By equipping organisations with the tools to successfully deliver a vocational employment or work experience programme, we ensure that the next generation of talent is being provided with the skills to succeed, positively impacting business performance and driving social good.
